Independent Living Program (ILP)
ILP provides services designed to assist foster youth ages 16-21 in their transition to living independently and self-sufficiently. The Department of Family and Children's Services currently has a contract with the Bill Wilson Center (BWC) to provide ILP case management services. ILP services are co-located at The Hub (youth center led and organized by foster youth and the BWC) to provide ease of access for youth. Some of the services offered include:
- Individual case management and support
- Housing information
- Healthcare
- Financial resources
- Education classes and workshops
- Career development and employment programs
- Legal services
- Resources/support for pregnant and parenting youth
- LGBTQ support
- Assistance and referral to promote health (including mental health)
- Daily living skills-budgeting, food shopping, meal planning
- Information and referral
ILP can support youth with securing employment, applying for college, and looking for housing. An emancipated youth stipend (EYS) may be available during qualifying hardships. ILP organizes and hosts events and parties so youth can celebrate accomplishments and holidays with their peers. Youth have somewhere to go and be with others during times people typically spend with family.
