County Programs

The County of Santa Clara provides two transportation programs, the Mobility Management Program (MMP) and Reach Your Destination Easily (RYDE).

 

Mobility Management Program

The Mobility Management Program provides free transportation benefits for eligible, registered dining program participants to access meal sites and engage in social interaction with others.

In FY2022, MMP helped a total of 916 participants access Senior Nutrition Program dining sites.

Benefits

There are a variety of free transportation benefits available to eligible dining participants. These include monthly bus passes for participants who are 65 years of age or older, gas cards for those who are 60 years of age or older, and paratransit rides for participants 60 years of age or older with disabilities who cannot use bus and light rail transit service due to their physical, visual, or cognitive disabilities.

RYDE Program

RYDE Logo

RYDE is a curb-to-curb transportation and local trip planning service for adults 65 years of age or older living in certain parts of Santa Clara County. RYDE can be used for appointments, grocery shopping, visits with friends, other local trips, doctors’ offices, hospitals, the Sunnyvale CalTrain Center, and the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto (non-emergency trips only).
 

Eligibility

To be eligible for RYDE services, participants must be 65 years of age or older, and ambulatory (able to walk on their own, or be able to walk assisted with a cane or walker). RYDE participants are allowed only one companion per passenger.

RYDE is unable to accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters at this time.
 

RYDE Destinations

The Santa Clara County RYDE program can provide rides for eligible participants who live within the following zip codes:

95110     95112     95116     95118     95119     95122     95123     95139

Rides can be taken up to 8 miles from a participant’s home for non-medical trips, and up to 16 miles from a participant’s home for medical trips. RYDE also provides trips to the Sunnyvale Caltrain station and the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto regardless of distance from the participant’s home.

RYDE Fees

RYDE fees are based on annual income and the number of miles traveled to a destination.

  • Up to 4 miles: $0.90 - $9.00
  • 5 to 8 miles: $1.30 - $13.00
  • 9 to 16 miles: $1.80 - $18.00

Each passenger must make a deposit before their first scheduled ride. Deposits range from $10 to $30 based on the passenger’s annual income.

To request a ride, call 2 business days in advance. Rides can be booked up to 4 weeks ahead.
